Choosing the Right Land Surveyor

One of the most important steps when planning to develop a property is to choose the right Land Surveyor, because if you get it wrong it could cost you thousands of dollars and a lot of wasted time. Unfortunately, there are many examples out there of careless surveying, the consequences of which can range from easy fixes to entire projects going under.

Stay Protected With A Licensed Land Surveyor

Why a Licensed Surveyor? Because the only way clients can protect themselves from the stress and cost of unnecessary mistakes is to choose a Licensed Land Surveyor; a Surveyor who comes recommended and one with an innovative and well-established company behind them.

In fact, you must use a Licensed Surveyor who holds a current Practising Certificate in order to provide legal documentation to define the boundaries of any property. If you should choose a person who is unqualified, then your survey will have no legal status whatsoever and the person carrying out the survey is liable to be fined.

According to Section 3 of the Licensed Surveyors Act 1909, the only person legally able to carry out an authorised survey is a Licensed Surveyor with a current Practising Certificate. Go to The Land Surveyors Licensing Board of Western Australia and search for your Surveyor by surname. Now you can be sure that the surveyor you’ve chosen is licensed and that their Practising Certificate is current.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. Too many yahoos out there doing cadastral work when they’re not qualified. Well said, Greg.
