1893 Survey Mark From Sutters Lane, West Pinjarra

This photo shows an original survey mark that was placed in 1893 off Sutters Lane, West Pinjarra. At that time, the survey marks were cut from existing trees in the area by the survey chains-person, and used as a means of protecting marks from white ants.

The survey mark found was the left of the tree fork and was located about 0.1m below ground level. The top portion would have been at ground level, meaning that about 0.2m of the mark had been destroyed by farmers ploughing over the years.

The mark was replaced by a 400mm steel rod 12mm in diameter at 0.2m deep and with an indicator stake at ground level, as per the WA regulations.

The mark was one of 6 line marks, all found, and each in a different state of decay.

This was part of a rural survey that I completed in 2007.
